Newsletter 26 –August 2009

Hope you are enjoying our 2009 Summer? and making the best of it!

Please read this newsletter carefully as I need replies for two planned events namely Bishops Lydeard Mill visit and the County Fellowship Dinner. Myself or Jane need to know yes or no and in the case of the meal, if yes, money up front please.

Most program detail is included in the committee minutes or appended as a paste from our website or the County Fellowship letter.

Minutes of West Somerset Scout Fellowship committee  meeting No.1 held at 28 Queens Road Minehead on Wednesday 12^th August 2009 at 19.30

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and agreed.

Matters arising.

The program of events was reviewed and discussed.

The Lynmouth walk arranged for earlier in the year had been cancelled due to lack of support and inclement weather. A new date for the same event was arranged for the 10/9/09.

The visit to Bishops Lydeard Mill arranged by Jane for the 5/9/09 will cost £6.00/head. Members must let Jane know that they plan to go by ringing her on

01984 639428 or emailing sjsharp6@btinternet.com before 1/9/09.

Ron advised the meeting that the details of the WSSF competition were circulated in the June Newsletter and all members were asked to consider at least one entry.

John McGuire reported that the suggested skittles evening will take place in March 2010  at the Valiant Soldier final date to be advised.

There is no further information on Jane’s suggested visit to Lady Gass.

The WSSF dinner will take place after Christmas and Jean agreed to arrange this event with Ron’s assistance. The cost of the meal was discussed and prices will be obtained for consideration at the Novembers meeting,

The WSSF have been asked to prepare the questions and run the District Cub Quiz at Exmoor HQ on Saturday the 3^rd October from 2.00 to 4.00 PM. John McGuire agreed to prepare the questions and Pete Curtis & John Burt would be Question Master and Time Keeper.

There is a County Scout Fellowship meal being held at Langport at a cost of £12/head (details appended). As this was a midday event rather that an evening event several members expressed interest. Ron must have names and money from those wishing to go by 1/9/09.

Dennis has organised a visit to Porlock Museum for Saturday 19^th September starting at 5.00 PM. It is suggested that after the visit we go for “a pie and a pint and a gossip” in Porlock?

Dear Member,

COUNTY SCOUT FELLOWSHIP LUNCH FOR MEMBERS & PARTNERS

            As our County Fellowship Founders Day Meal was a great success this year, we are holding another Sunday Lunchtime Meal.   Again it will be at the Langport Arms Hotel, Cheap Street, Langport, 12.30 p.m. for 1 p.m. lunchtime.

            Lunch will be: Carvery, Sweet and Coffee, the cost will be £12 per person.

            The Main Course of Carvery is served with a selection of fresh seasonal vegetables and roast potatoes.

            If you wish to come and have a special requirement due to health problems, then please let me know, and the Hotel will do their best to accommodate you.

            I do need to ask for the full amount of money to be paid to me, and sent to the address at the head of this letter, by Saturday 5^th September 2009, at the latest.    Cheques to be made payable to “Camelot District Scout Council”.    The Hotel need to have our numbers by Monday 7^th September 2009, because they do get early bookings for Sunday lunches.   Our numbers will depend on which room we are allocated.    At this time we have made a provisional booking for 50 people.
