Thanks for a Christmas present of long ago.

Here we are in dark December

Gathered together for a day to remember

A pile of gifts beneath the tree

Some for them and some for me

Lying there a box so long

To Martyn, Graham and Malcolm-John

For weeks we’d prodded poked and shaken

Our chance to open now we’ve taken

Monopoly or take your chances

What can it be from all the Blanchs

No – it is the auction game

Throw the dice and make your claim

Graham with his winning roll finds he’s made the highest bid

Martyn who is very wary, sees he’s bought the Virgin Mary

Malcolm who must surely cough finds he owns a forged Van Gough

Father who has hardly spoke discovers he is stony broke

Mother midst the turkey cooking knows a treasure without looking

Thanks for this are surely due from all of us to all of you.
